Chapter History

Happy birthday Alpha Tau!  In 2019, the Alpha Tau Chapter celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding at Carnegie Mellon in 1944.  The Carnegie Mellon chapter was founded through the communal effort of other local collegiate and alumni chapters, and has endeavored to carry out the purpose and rituals shared by Tri Delta chapters.  However, like each individual Tri Delta chapter, Alpha Tau’s traditions and values have been influenced by its unique university location.  At the time of its founding, the women of the Carnegie Institute of Technology attended a separate college known as the Margaret Morrison School, and represented a minority demographic at the university.  Beginning at the time of its founding, Tri Delta women of CMU have found strength and solidarity in their sorority experience.
